Job Description:

Nebraska Public Media seeks an innovative and collaborative Senior Director of Engineering to lead a critically important division of this state-wide public media organization. Nebraska Public Media operates nine television and nine radio stations and is recognized for the ground-breaking work of Nebraska Public Media Labs.

The Senior Director of Engineering reports to the Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for a variety of staff and functions concerning broadcast, internet-based distribution and production equipment. 

 

The salary range for this position is mid $70k to $109k with the anticipated starting salary range of $100k.  Our staff also enjoy a very attractive benefits package, including university tuition abatement's.

The Director will manage a highly skilled technical staff.  Among the responsibilities of this position, the Senior Director of Engineering: 

  • Coordinates staff and equipment and assigns work priorities within areas of responsibility, including the day-to-day technical operation and maintenance of the  broadcast operation center and/or transmission systems.
  • Coordinates ordering of parts from suppliers and distributes to appropriate engineering areas.
  • Evaluates technical performance of signal generation, distribution and/or transmission systems.
  • Assumes operational responsibility and control for certain engineering areas, including budget assigned to those areas.
  • Acts as principal coordinator and project manager for network distribution and supervises statewide interconnection service.
  • Initiates television engineering research and participates in the design of modification of technical operation procedures, project planning and management.
  • Supervises the construction and implementation of new or modified technical systems.
  • Evaluates technical specifications and operating standards of equipment as well as personnel requirements and the performance of staff.
  • Formulates technical standards of operations for review and approval of the Chief Technology Officer.

The Senior Director must be able to assume responsibility for the entire network system in the absence of the Chief Technology Officer.

Candidates will be considered based on knowledge in all areas of responsibility. Knowledge of FCC policies, procedures, rules and regulations is essential.

To be considered, candidates must have at least eight years of experience in broadcasting and internet-based distribution systems; including varied broadcast and internet based functional areas involving both operational and maintenance experience and at least three years’ experience in a supervisory capacity. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field may substitute for four years’ experience in broadcasting electronics.
