CPB Awards Grants for Digital Media Education Projects
Washington, DC -- The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today announced grants to nine public television stations to create content on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects which will be shared among public broadcasting stations and educational organizations.
CPB's Digital Media Resources Production Grant program will fund content on science subjects that are often difficult to teach and learn, with this initial funding round focused on climate literacy for middle school children.
"Public service media has a partnership of trust with teachers and parents and the American people when it comes to education. Through these important digital media grants, we will be working with public service media stations to deliver high quality science, technology, math and engineering content to ensure STEM literacy for our children and all lifelong learners," said Pat Harrison, president and CEO of CPB.
The goals of this grant program are to foster 21st century learning skills in a flexible learning environment; increase station capacity for partnering with state educational organizations, school districts, after-school programs, scientists and museums; and create an economically-sustainable digital media production model for public broadcasters.
"Content produced from these grants will help educators teach difficult subjects through multiple representations of complex concepts," said Dr. Susan Zelman, CPB's senior vice president for Education and Children's Content.
