Washington D.C. -- The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today announced major funding for a public television performance special hosted by President and Mrs. Obama in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
"In Performance at the White House: Fiesta Latina" will feature live performances by noted Latino performers such as Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, José Feliciano, Thalía, Jimmy Smits, George Lopez and many others. The October 13th concert will be shown on public television stations nationwide later this month and on V-me, the national Spanish language network presented by public television stations, later in the year.
"CPB is proud to fund 'Fiesta Latina' which will celebrate the enormous contributions the Latino culture has had on our society," said Pat Harrison, president and CEO of CPB. "Public media has a deep commitment in delivering culturally-diverse programming to all Americans."
"Latin music is one of the greatest American cultural traditions," said Joaquín Alvarado, CPB's senior vice president of Diversity and Innovation. "This project clearly demonstrates the artistic innovations that come from our country's many diverse communities."
