The Engineering & Operations Team of Indiana University Radio & Television Services (RTVS) seeks a motivated and knowledgeable Telecommunications Engineer to join the team! This position is not limited to Network support; development and programming are required, as well as broadcast engineering and IT knowledge.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Configures, tests, troubleshoots, upgrades/modifies, and maintains computer systems utilizing advanced systems analysis techniques which include hardware/software configuration and installation, OS installation and support, security, backup infrastructure, data protection, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning, storage allocation, etc.
- Collaborates, evaluates, develops and implements best practices to keep pace with emerging technologies as it pertains to server systems and computing environments overall.
- Acts as a point of contact and/or as project lead; works closely with design and development teams to ensure decision makers are updated on project progress and made aware of project issues that may need resolution.
- Facilitates tactical and strategic planning discussions with stakeholders to reach consensus on direction, project scope, or common understanding of complex issues.
- Provides recommendations on project scoping, planning, prioritization, resource allocation, schedule assignments, software configuration, network equipment, and other telecommunication services.
- Provides recommendations to improve policies, practices, and procedures for delivering WFIU and WTIU services.
- Works to identify areas of improvement throughout the implementation and support process; recommends / facilitates business and architectural process re-engineering sessions as needed.
- Recognizes, analyzes, and troubleshoots more complex problems with telecommunications hardware and applications.
- May serve as project leader.
- Provides guidance to junior peers.
- Designs and develops voice applications to address business needs.
- Ensures backup, restores, and monitors procedures for telecommunication systems and critical telephony data.
- Designs and implements telecommunications systems.
- Provides recommendations and consulting to departments across the Radio-TV regarding communications needs including software configuration, equipment, network configuration and other telecommunications technologies.
- Performs troubleshooting of telecommunications systems and technologies to ensure exceptional design and enhanced services.
- Provides training for staff and LAN administration of a diverse network for Radio & TV Services.
- Manages and supports all computing and related equipment for Radio and Television Services, including the Radio station WFIU and the TV station WTIU.
- Supports small network switches, broadcasting operating system (OS) equipment, and digital media/streaming media equipment.
- Increases complexity of broadcast and computing/Network functions require specialized software and network services to support the continuous operation of WFIU-FM, WTIU-TV, along with the other Radio and TV Services operations.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in network science, telecommunications, engineering, information technology or related field)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years of experience in telecommunications system design
Preferred
- 5 years of systems administration or related experience
- Experience with at least two scripting languages
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

- Building Industry Consulting Service International Registered Communications Distributions Designer (BICSI RCDD) Upon date of hire Hire
Preferred
- Building Industry Consulting Service International Outside Plant (BICSI OSP) addition to RCDD certification

WORKING CONDITIONS/DEMANDS
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This role is required to maintain and interact with computers and frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
