Job Description:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Digital Producer to join our dynamic team at Houston Public Media. In this role, you will be responsible for editing stories, coaching writers, creating a daily rundown of content, reporting your own stories and generating innovative story ideas that engage our audience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism, exceptional editing skills, and a passion for storytelling in the digital landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
Story Editing: Review and edit articles for clarity, accuracy, style, and adherence to our editorial standards. Provide constructive feedback to writers to enhance their work.
Writer Coaching: Mentor and support staff writers, offering guidance on best practices in journalism, story development, and audience engagement.
Daily Rundown Creation: Compile and organize a daily rundown of stories, ensuring that content is relevant and aligned with audience interests.
Idea Generation: Proactively develop and pitch story ideas that reflect current trends, audience needs, and our organization's mission. Collaborate with writers to refine and execute these ideas.
Collaboration: Work closely with the news and digital teams, including reporters and other editors, to ensure a cohesive and compelling online presence.
SEO and Analytics: Implement SEO best practices and utilize analytics to inform content strategy, ensuring our stories reach and resonate with a wide audience.
Quality Control: Maintain high editorial standards and ensure all published content meets our guidelines for accuracy and ethical journalism.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in journalism, with a strong emphasis on digital content.
