Job Description:

KUER is seeking a curious and vibrant morning person to assist with the weekday production of local and live program materials for NPR’s Morning Edition. The job requires a passion for news, a collaborative spirit and strong attention to detail and accuracy. The producer will perform a wide range of functions including, but not limited to, supporting the host by identifying stories, writing news copy, producing audio and two-way interviews. This role also serves as a fill-in host as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • One year professional newsroom experience
  • Experience in public broadcasting and newsroom environments with demonstrated knowledge of broadcast writing style
  • Experience running an audio board, preferably as an anchor or host
  • Experience with studio operation and audio production
  • Comfort with an early hours schedule
  • Detail-oriented with an eye to high standards of accuracy
  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
  • Must have solid news judgment and commitment to journalistic ethics
  • Familiarity with AP Style and working in content management systems
  • Excellent communicator, team player and problem solver
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Previous experience in communicating with and/or telling the stories of underrepresented groups with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion to align with station goals and culture

Responsibilities:

  • With the Morning Edition host, produce local written and audio news content
  • With the Morning Edition host, identify and write news copy for newscasts
  • Produce audio newscasts for web and digital platforms
  • Monitor news wire, social media and other sources to identify breaking news for morning newscasts or to forward to the dayside news team
  • In coordination with the Morning Edition host, digital editor and news director, schedule guests and produce audio and written versions of interviews for radio and web
  • Serve as an on-air, fill-in anchor for “Morning Edition”
  • In coordination with the digital team & host, produce timely social media content
  • Other newsroom reporting, research and production as assigned
