The Membership Specialist will support KUT and KUTX member engagement efforts to serve the needs of our growing community of listeners and supporters. These efforts include member/listener services, data processing and fundraising.



Member Services:

  • Perform membership customer service functions including answering member inquiries by email, telephone and SMS (text message).

  • Manage KUT's member management system including: approving transactions made by KUT members; engaging with members on how to use the system; updating membership staff on changes or improvements to the system.

  • Coordinates thank you gift fulfillment processes including: sending lists to mail services vendor; ensuring delivery to members; managing inventory; and maintaining the online sustainer store.


Gift Processing:

  • Manage credit card and ACH payment processing functions and related activities.



  • Manage the KUT and KUTX Business Circle during membership drives. Solicit Business Circle gifts from returning and prospective members. Maintain business section of member database, including sustaining donors, and maintain online directory. Work closely with on-air staff to ensure business announcements during membership drives.


Special Events:

  • Attend and participate in all relevant KUT events. Drive University Vehicle to events and meetings.



  • Proactively participate in development strategies, membership initiatives, and regular team meetings. Work closely with colleagues across the station, of all different backgrounds and skills. Must demonstrate ability to work well within a team and uphold and further KUT’s mission to provide a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

  • Other related functions as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • A combination of at least one year of experience in a development and/or membership setting or in a related field.

  • Must be comfortable and adept at asking individuals for financial contributions.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and expertise in customer service.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in completing work.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (at intermediate to advanced level).


Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • More than two years experience in specialized development work.

  • Experience in development writing for direct mail and email.

  • Working knowledge of Allegiance Software, a public broadcasting membership management software and VIP, the UT alumni/donor database system.

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce Marketing Cloud, an email marketing software.

  • Experience with SMS software.

  • Public broadcasting development experience.


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.


Salary Range

$46,000 - $52,000


Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Lifting and moving equipment, supplies, furniture when setting up for events. Occasional travel may be required.


Work Shift

Work hours may vary to include additional working hours during peak periods. This position may require working on evenings, some weekends and holidays. This position is hybrid/eligible for flexible work arrangements including up to two days per week remote.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
