Full-Time, Exempt
Salary Range: Starting at $70,000 annually DOE plus benefits.
Quarterly commission on qualified sales (7% new, 4% renewal).
Koahnic Broadcast Corporation, an award-winning nonprofit Native American/Alaska Native Media organization seeks an experienced salesperson to raise annual revenue to support its mission and programming.
The Account Executive is responsible for generating revenue through underwriting, sponsorships, advertising, and corporate partnerships that support Koahnic Broadcast Corporation’s public radio and digital programming.This role is central to Koahnic’s long-term sustainability and advancing its mission to serve local, national, and international audiences. The Account Executive will cultivate relationships, secure funding, and develop customized sponsorship opportunities that align with clients’ marketing goals and Koahnic’s values.
Koahnic Broadcast Corporation programs and services include KNBA-FM in Anchorage, the first Native-operated public radio station in the U.S. to broadcast in an urban area. KNBA provides an eclectic format focused on AAA (Adult Album Alternative) music, local and national Indigenous news and public affairs, NPR news, and volunteer programming. Koahnic’s nationally distributed programs include Native America Calling which has brought listeners together for a one-hour live moderated call-in program each weekday since 1995, and National Native News, a daily 5-minute news program. Koahnic’s flagship programs also include Indigefi, a dynamic weekly program spotlighting contemporary Native music.Through our distribution service, Native Voice One (NV1), Native-produced programming including Koahnic’s national programs is carried on more than 400 public radio stations, translators and repeaters throughout the U.S. and abroad. In addition to broadcast distribution, Koahnic brings content to audiences in digital spaces in audio and visual formats through our websites, streaming, social media, and podcasts.

Account Executive Job Description
The Account Executive is responsible for generating revenue through underwriting, sponsorships, advertising, and corporate partnerships that support Koahnic Broadcast Corporation’s public radio and digital programming.

The Account Executive will cultivate relationships, secure funding, and develop customized sponsorship opportunities that align with clients’ marketing goals and Koahnic’s values.
Key Responsibilities

Sales & Revenue Generation
-
Produce revenues through sales and manage relationships for renewing and new Koahnic clients, including large and small independent businesses and nonprofit agencies, as well as advertising/marketing agencies.

Prospect new business across our platforms from new and/or existing corporate partners.

Achieve revenue goals as set by the Chief Development Officer, CEO, and Koahnic Broadcast Corporation’s Board of Directors.

Negotiate underwriting and advertising packages, pricing, terms, and on-air (radio) copy that conforms to FCC regulations, as well as Koahnic’s policies.

Client Relationship Management

Develop and build strong relationships with clients and agencies to sell, execute, and renew media sales across local KNBA-FM broadcasts, weekday national broadcasts of Native America Calling and National Native News, weekly broadcasts of Indigefi, special program broadcasts, and digital and streaming platforms to agency media buyers and direct to clients.

Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with assigned accounts, collaborating with clients to develop tailored underwriting and advertising proposals, as well as other opportunities to support Koahnic.

Research and analyze prospective and existing clients to understand their goals, marketing strategies, and community involvement, aligning Koahnic’s sponsorship and advertising opportunities with their objectives.

Market Research & Strategy

Analyze audience and market research to identify prospective clients and align them with Koahnic’s audiences through tailored underwriting, sponsorship, and advertising opportunities.

Diligently seek, solicit, and cultivate new and prospective clients through cold calling, direct face-to-face contact, and sustained relationships throughout the business, non-profit, and tribal communities.

Creative & Compliance Responsibilities

Develop and manage underwriting copy and creative assets, ensuring strict adherence to FCC regulations and Koahnic Broadcast Corporation's policies; collaborate with peers and management to maintain compliance and uphold industry standards.

Collaboration & Internal Coordination
-
Collaborate with Traffic & Billing, Community Outreach/Events, and Programming teams to develop and support sponsorship packages for live events, ensure seamless sponsorship execution, drive revenue generation, and strengthen client relationships.

Represent Koahnic at events and other community functions.

Community Engagement & Brand Representation

Engage the community at large; attend occasional community meetings or other functions as appropriate to support client cultivation and stewardship.

Develop and support initiatives that recognize and engage sponsors, donors, and community partners, including creating underwriting packages for donor recognition events and other philanthropic opportunities.

Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
-
Seven years of sales experience in national media, a major media market, commercial media, or public media.

Digital media sales and relationship management experience required. Nonprofit fundraising experience is a plus.

Strong knowledge of public media and governing FCC rules for compliance is preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software and tools relevant to sales and business.

Excellent sales, presentation, interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills—both written and verbal—for a wide variety of audiences.

Demonstrated ability to set and achieve fundraising goals and meet individual and department deadlines.

Strong self-motivation in carrying out responsibilities, organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks, and meeting deadlines.

The Account Executive will work remotely.
Additional Knowledge, Abilities, and Expectations

Must be able to operate within a normal office environment to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. An employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The Account Executive is expected to work flexible but regular hours, due to cross-time-zone collaborations, Monday-Friday, with one hour for lunch.

The Account Executive is expected to maintain a professional, neat, and well-groomed appearance appropriate for in-person and virtual business settings.

Ability and willingness to attend evening and weekend events when required.

Local travel for client meetings is expected, as well as occasional long-distance travel for meetings or conferences.
