Job Description:

ABOUT THE JOB is in search of a creative, energetic and collaborative news marketing editor to join our team to help grow and diversify our audience in the digital space.

This role is a part of a versatile, data-driven team to increase the reach and impact of journalism. The right fit for this role will have a passion for news and data, a flair for story packaging and strong communication skills.

We're a growing public media company with a television station and an NPR radio station that has recently launched a newsroom and new digital news platform. We're in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania - a news-rich community whose traditional media have been battered and shrunken by layoffs and corporate ownership. Our mission: Reinvigorate our community with journalism that informs and enlightens - and beat back the shadows of a looming news desert.

Day-to-day responsibilities of the job include:

  • Work from mid-day to 7:00 or 8:00 PM to write and craft daily and weekly newsletters the evening prior.
  • Optimizing stories for search engines
  • Social media production
  • Building promotion plans for special projects and initiatives
  • Generating story ideas
  • Communicating data back to the newsroom
  • Cultivating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment that supports the organization's values and strategic plan

  • Active on social media and embedded in internet culture.
  • Versatile and steady under pressure.
  • Able to bloom in a startup environment and will not get frustrated or overwhelmed by the pace of growth.

  • Newsroom experience, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with particular understanding of the voice and approach required for social media.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization, particularly for breaking news and social media.
  • Proven ability to use data to inform decision-making.
  • Knowledge of emergent platforms and trends in digital media.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ease working within teams that are on-site or offsite.
  • Experience creating socially driven or conceived news and features.
  • An eye for compelling content and the ability to communicate that to a diverse audience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communication or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of digital newsletter and social media production and management.

  • Pay you within a range of $45,000 to $50,000 annually to start with annual merit increase eligibility
  • Provide an excellent benefits package that includes 401(k) with match, low-deductible health insurance, free telemedicine, innovative paid time off policies, disability and life insurance, and more.
  • Provide you with professional growth through individual direction, training and development activities
  • Keep you connected with our industry through conferences and professional associations
  • Invite you into a culture that is supportive, respectful, inclusive, professional, and evolving
  • Continue our commitment to cultivating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workplace that helps us represent the voices of our community- the Lehigh Valley.
