This 20-hr per week position directs all aspects of KZYX Public Affairs programming to ensure adherence to the KZYX mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit and train volunteer programmers in an effort to curate public affairs shows relevant to the diverse communities of Mendocino County
• Establish working relationships with all public affairs programmers; provide timely and accurate updates and communications to keep all public affairs programmers current on station business; become familiar with programmer shows and provide them with regular and consistent feedback
• In coordination with the Music Director, establish and maintain regular communications with the Programmer’s Representative on the Board of Directors.
• In coordination with the public affairs programmers, oversee the production of public affairs promotional materials for programmer shows, both for broadcast, social media and other digital spaces
• Attend major donor events, represent KZYX at public events and regularly participate in on-air fundraising, including station pledge drives

NECESSARY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in broadcast journalism
• Experience in radio production, preferably in a public media environment
• Knowledge of Mendocino County politics, government, geography, history, institutions and people
• Demonstrated skills in editing, interviewing, audio editing software, and writing for broadcast and familiarity with broadcasting equipment with the ability to broadcasting live.
• Experience with digital marketing and social media promotion
• Good people skills, ability to build relationships
• Supervisory and volunteer management experience
• Willingness to work flexible hours as required
• Knowledge of FCC requirements and compliance

• Bilingual in Spanish and English
