Manager, Media Assets
Reports to: Executive Director, Media Resources
ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Manager, Media Assets, you will be responsible for the daily management of systems and workflows of WETA’s PBS NewsHour, PBS News Weekend and Washington Week media assets management system. You will be performing a variety of tasks related to the ingest, maintenance, culling, archiving and restoration of PBS NewsHour media assets. You will collaborate with fellow Media Assets team members, producers, editors, technicians and other members of the PBS NewsHour organization to develop workflows and standard procedures, train staff in those workflows and monitor adherence to the same by the systems’ users.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You will be immersed in all things PBS NewsHour and WETA – getting to know media assets-oriented workflows and technology, our analog archive, newsroom procedures and staff responsibilities and engineering and IT departmental roles in asset management’s daily needs. You will take a deep dive into our ingest, transcode, asset management and deletion systems and begin to consider ways to continue leveraging those tools to the NewsHour’s best advantage.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
The successful Manager will show a deep understanding of our workflows and systems; managing our systems in a steady, consistent manner and addressing and resolving issues adeptly. You will be appreciated across NewsHour and WETA as a strong communicator and team player – able to meet short and long-term needs and goals efficiently. You will act as a key principal in the management of our systems and begin to work closely with others in developing the next generation of WETA’s digital asset management plans.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Demonstrated understanding and application of digital asset management technology, the use of media asset management-related software and regularly used office software programs, such as Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced newsroom setting and adjust smoothly to changing assignments under deadline pressure.
- Thorough understanding of media files (formats, codecs, file sizes and storage), digital intake, file manipulation, consolidation and deletion and management of news feeds and content.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
