Producer, Politics, PBS NewsHour

Full-time, Regular

Reports to: Senior Producer, Politics



As our Politics Producer, you’ll be an integral part of our politics unit, overseeing the production of video segments for use on-air and a variety of online content. You’ll be pitching story ideas for studio discussions and tape pieces. Then, you’ll manage the creation process and see your idea to air. You’ll assist other producers when needed and work to more junior producers to mentor and teach them.



You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to executives through participation in editorial planning meetings. You’ll contribute to a variety of stories, from features, to politics for the broadcast and online starting on day one. You’ll have a number of stories skillfully produced and aired.



You are regularly contributing to both features and in-depth news reporting. You bring a vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch meetings. Your demonstrated passion for knowing the ideal way to produce content and ability to seamlessly jump from project to project will enable you to flourish.  You’ve developed trust with executive leadership. You have grown your own skills and those of junior producers, and can point to evidence in the team’s improved reporting.



  • Experience covering politics and government at a national level.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple deadlines; experience working in a fast-paced environment with responsibilities that change by the hour.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning and follow-through, presentation and time management skills.
  • Availability to work a non-standard or extended work schedule.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience producing original news content with preferred experience covering politics; college degree in journalism, political science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
