TITLE: Reporter & Producer, The Source
DEPARTMENT: Development
REPORTS TO: Host, The Source
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (In office)
SALARY RANGE: $55,000 - $65,000
WORK LOCATION: ONSITE
SUMMARY:
Do you live and breathe the news? TPR is looking for a Reporter & Producer for our live, local daily talk show. They should have their finger on the pulse of San Antonio, pitching segments to the show’s host and stories to the TPR Newsroom. The Reporter & Producer also helps with live production in-studio and the show’s social media engagement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists host in booking interview segments.
- Pitches interview segments to host.
- Manage The Source’s guest relations
- Serves as call screener in the control room, updating the host about listener calls, social media comments, emails, and texts.
- Serves as backup host of The Source
- Participates in TPR News daily morning meeting.
- Assists in production of web posts for episodes.
- Coordinates with TPR’s marketing team on social media.
- Produce news material from The Source for TPR’s Newscasts.
- Pitches and produces stories for the TPR Newsroom.
- Focus on high profile breaking news, underreported stories, and local arts features.
- Assists in station fundraising and special programming as needed
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent experience. Spanish language competency is a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least two years journalism experience that includes gathering story information; interviewing newsmakers; and writing clear, concise news content. Also desired: experience recording and editing audio and video; experience writing and producing news on multiple platforms and effectively using social media.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A passion for the mission of public radio.
- Widely read and eager to stay on top of local, regional, and national news.
- Demonstrated sound news judgment.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including editing and proofreading.
- Technologically versatile, proficient in Microsoft Office software, with willingness to expand skills. Multi-media skills, including experience producing or editing digital media is desirable.
- Demonstrated professionalism and personal relationship skills, including the ability to work well with other team members.
- Self-motivated, with a “willing spirit” and the ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision.
- Able to work extended hours as needed and to travel, sometimes on short notice.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Using fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects.
- Frequently conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, clearly, and quickly.
- Able to hear average or normal conversations in person or by phone.
- Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or other materials.
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. May have to lift folders, files, papers, audio/video equipment, and other items weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
