Facilities Engineer  

Full time, Exempt

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer


The Facilities Engineer is responsible for Maintaining the buildings and facilities systems. They will perform analyses of operational processes, utility usage, safety processes, recommend and implement improvements.  Set- up Preventive Maintenance schedules, troubleshoot facility problems, and assist internal clients with Project Management related to WETA’s core businesses. The Facility Engineering oversees the plant operations of WETA’s corporate headquarters.


  • Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the facility including maintenance and repair work as needed.
  • Manage the planning, design, construction and/or maintenance of facilities, including the contracts with external custodial services, along with other contracts related to maintaining the facility. (Yard Service, Exterminator, Copier vendor, vending services).  
  • Conduct regular inspections of existing facilities.  Including HVAC and other building systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors to determine schedules, materials, and labor needs for ongoing maintenance.
  • Document maintenance procedures, Maintain logs and Document activities.
  • Inspect facilities to identify potential hazards, identify issues with structure, safety and take steps to eliminate them.
  • In partnership with CTO, manage building technology needs including IT and security.
  • Assist with cost analyses on potential projects to determine budget and feasibility.
  • Maintain the facility to meet all Arlington County, OSHA workplace codes and WETA insurance requirements, including annual inspection by the Fire Marshal and other required facility inspections.
  • Participate in future design, development, and implementation plans for upgrades or renovations.
  • Respond to after hour emergencies such as fire, flooding, severe weather (including snow removal), power outages and other issues requiring clean-up activities when contract personnel are not available.  Interface with contract personnel, such as snow removal.
  • Coordinate vendor activity and facility access.


Technical skills:

  • Read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints, schematics and other construction documents. Review and interpret building codes and regulations. Troubleshoot and solve technical problems, including those related to electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.

Communication skills:

  • Communicate with a variety of people, including other engineers, contractors, clients and internal stakeholders.  Proficiently read, write and speak English. 

Problem-solving skills:

  • Find solutions to issues that arise in the workplace. Problem-solving skills to find solutions with the building’s electrical system, heating and cooling system or plumbing.  Problem-solving related to issues with the building design or construction. Maintain skill set with ongoing training.

Project management:

  • Effective project management skills to assist in oversite for completion of facility projects on time and within budget, along with external vendors. Create schedules, delegate tasks and check in with the facilities teams to ensure the project is progressing as planned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach and use arms to perform task.
  • Frequently required to sit, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Occasionally required to lift or move 50+ pounds.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent with Certifications & Licenses as required for the position.
  • Comprehensive training and certification in HVAC or operating engineering technologies or equivalent job-related training and experience. 
  • SMT Certification.
  • CFC Certification.
  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently.
