Production Assistant, Media Assets

Reports to: Executive Director, Media Assets

Part-time, 23 hours per week

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Production Assistant, Media Assets you will work with the PBS NewsHour Media Assets team, performing a variety of tasks related to the management and archiving of PBS NewsHour, PBS News Weekend and Washington Week media assets (both digital and tape). You will support to the production work of those programs. You will exercise independent judgment and collaborates with producers, technicians and other members of the broadcast and online content divisions.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

 You'll spend your early days learning the WETA/NewsHour Media Assets workflows and tools; getting to know how the organization leverages them to gather, distribute, manage and archive media from many directions.  You'll work closely with Media Assets team members, NewsHour editors and producers to utilize standard operating procedures in ingesting media to our systems, adding metadata to files and assisting in footage and data research.  90 days on, you’ll be able to identify, locate, collect, verify and organize NewsHour media assets with confidence and agility.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You use your knowledge and skills to efficiently work with NewsHour editorial and production colleagues in moving media into and through our systems - all with good humor, patience and a high level of customer service.  You consistently collaborate with your Media Assets team to maintain the organization's media flow.  Your enthusiasm for and devotion to producing news content has grown and further supports your daily efforts. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting and adjust smoothly to changing assignments under deadline pressure
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to grasp and utilize customized software and databases in short order
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with digital asset management systems preferred
  • Experience with video editing software preferred

Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
