Production Manager

Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to: VP, Production Management

We’re looking to hire a Production Manager for our National Programming department. As our Production Manager you will serve as a client representative on projects in the National Programming portfolio.  Services include preparing programs for submission to chief distributors (PBS, APT, others) budget design and administration, booking and scheduling of personnel and facilities, expense management, and financial reporting to both producers and station management.  In this role you will Report to Vice President of Production Management.

In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Prepare programs made either by WETA itself or its national production partners for submission to PBS, PBS Digital, PBS International, PBS Learning Media, American Public Television.
  • Liaise and plan with producers the deliverables requirements and timeline for delivery to constituent distributors.
  • Facilitate successful completion of NPD projects by; placing orders for goods and services for project; Supervise implementations.
  • Manage production activity within parameters of production plan, budget, schedule, performance specs and plant capabilities.

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, to be onboarded and familiarized with the personnel and internal operations of NPD; to be comfortable with the various customized software packages employed by our unit, especially Concur, Replicon, ScheduAll, PBS Packaging Forms, the new Vendor Registration software; introduction to WETA chart of accounts; introduction to Accounting & Finance; introduction to production center; assigned a list of projects and introduced to the principal points of contact for same; introduction to key vendors involved in program delivery.
  • After 120 days, to be able to complete a workflow plan for packaging and delivery of an NPD project to PBS; introduction to APT; to begin reviewing contracts; to be able to construct a budget for a basic presentation/promotion project; to participate in the planning for an NPD event or virtual event; to take the point for delivery of all assets for an NPD project to PBS.

You must have:

  • Experience with PBS and APT standards and practices, deliverables requirements, technical and style book specifications are a must.
  • Knowledge of and ability to review and draft production contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform strong financial analysis, planning and tracking.

You should have:

  • College degree in Broadcast Communications, Journalism, Financial Management or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in project or production management/coordination at national/network level. Experience should include a working familiarity with studio/control room production, remote production, ENG/EFP, edit room operations and satellites and circuits.

Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
