Senior Manager, National Education

Full-Time, Regular, Exempt

Reports to: Senior Director, National Impact & Engagement


We’re looking to hire a Senior Manager, National Education for our National Programming Department. The Senior Manager, National Education is a key member of the National Impact & Engagement Team. The National Impact & Engagement team is tasked with developing new models of engagement with attention to diversity and inclusion through partnerships and new technologies; building strategic partnerships with organizations whose networks and subject-matter knowledge can amplify our work; creating engaging and impactful educational content that leverages connections within the public media community, external partners, educators and students; and establishing adaptable project management structure that connects individual projects with overarching department and organizational goals.

The primary focus of responsibilities for the Senior Manager, National Education will be to strategize and manage the creation and amplification of innovative and engaging, standards-based, education assets and resources for WETA’s national programming portfolio including Well Beings, Ken Burns films and Henry Louis Gates, Jr. films and series’.

In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Develop original education content ideas and concepts utilizing video, audio, text, animations, graphics and other transmedia formats.
  • Work closely with partners, producers, project staff, and/or contract employees in the execution of premier national education content.
  • Define and drive long-term education strategy and positioning for WETA’s national programming and public media in general.
  • Research, cultivate, support and build strategic education partnerships.

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, you will become familiar with all WETA-provided software such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc. Familiarized with the personnel of the National Impact & Engagement and Station Relations Teams and the more comprehensive National Programming department; this also includes all external vendors and contractors.  Become knowledgeable of all active broadcast and digital projects, deliverables, and project status and able to fully participate in daily team meetings and presentations.
  • After 120 days, you will be familiar with system partners and relationships, and able to lead the daily activities related to National Education projects within the National Impact & Engagement Team (includes full-time employees, contractors, vendors, station contacts and partners).

You must have:

  • Proven track record of creating compelling, innovative education content.
  • Experience with all things education – national standards, pedagogy, instructional methods, etc…
  • Experience writing, consulting, or reviewing lesson plans and curriculum for K-12, with an emphasis on middle and high school
  • Successful track record of managing projects in a consensus-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to write, edit and create useful, standards-based education resources
  • Passion for new technologies and experience with multi-media education projects.

You should have:

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in media or education institution
