Job Summary:
The Classical Announcer and Content Producer is responsible for conceiving, developing and producing high quality programs which are consistent with station objectives, programming objectives, and compatible with audience interests, and performing on-air shifts with required technical expertise.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, researching, producing, and hosting a daily classical music program (5 hours per day, M-F), producing other special programs and features as assigned, and conducting and producing interviews and other classical content for broadcast/digital platforms.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Researches, produces, and hosts daily classical music program. (Music programming may be included based on experience.) Oversees on-air operation of radio station during on-air shift.
- Hosts and produces additional special programs and features as assigned.
- Writes, edits, conducts interviews and fully produces classical segments for broadcast/digital platforms.
- Promotes local classical concerts and community events that fall within program guidelines.
- Serves as back-up host (live or voice-tracked as applicable) for other on-air shifts as needed.
- Operates on-air and production studio equipment in accordance with established station and FCC guidelines.
- Participates as talent during on-air pledge drives.
- Maintains complete list of music played for ASCAP/BMI/Sound Exchange reporting.
- Contributes audio and written content for promotions, publications, and weekly newsletters/digital media as assigned.
- Engages audience through social media in collaboration with Marketing.
- Provides programming information to Marketing and Operations.
- Responds to audience comment, inquiry, and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Represents WHRO at promotional events in the community as assigned.
- Assists with Community Outreach implementation.
- Fosters and maintains audience and community relationships.
- Voices and produces underwriting and promotional spots for radio, TV and digital.
- Assists with building and maintaining the classical music library collection.
- Downloads and imports music files and programs, sets up automation logs, and handles other operational duties as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Warm, relaxed, and engaging on-air personality.
- Passion for bringing classical music to new audiences and new platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of classical music, including composers, performers, eras, and related information and history.
- Excellent enunciation and foreign language pronunciation skills (especially French, Italian, and German).
- Working knowledge of radio automation and digital platforms.
- Audio production skills (Adobe Audition preferred).
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in music, broadcasting, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in related field.
