Master Control Operator

The DCA BOC in Jacksonville, FL is seeking to hire a Master Control Operator to join our team! The BOC HOS manages, maintains, and operates multiple interfaces of live automated equipment while providing master control support for television stations they are assigned.

Job Duties / Tasks:

  • Communicate verbally and written with spoke station personnel and internal personnel daily. Generating and sending Missing Media Reports to DCA Clients (spoke stations)
  • Generating and sending heads up BVR Incident Reports to DCA Clients (spoke stations) when any on-air incidents occur, following through with updated accurate information
  • Monitor several programming sources simultaneously while maintaining the status of multiple stations on-air quality broadcasts
  • Monitors various levels of transport streams from multiple television station transmitter sites
  • Manages several live on-air logs while ensuring their accuracy and communicating regularly internally/externally when a log needs revision
  • Ensures the correct content is playing out on air for multiple stations and notes any discrepancies
  • Troubleshoots any technical difficulties that may arise within any of the DCA’s 55 channels that are live on air. Makes sound judgement calls to resolve any on-air incidents, by making any necessary program changes
  • Routinely communicates internally and externally with DCA stations’ using clear and concise communication standards within the organization, to give our customers a consistent experience. This includes sending out alerts, picking up the phone to communicate regularly when the action is required, active and prompt responses to all communications received, collaborating on problem solving techniques
  • Understands the FCC requirements and bylaws as required for on-air content quality assurance
  • Performs constant on air quality assurance. Marks up and quality controls all content bound for air
  • Ingests, transfers, and maintains all content inbound and outbound for air
  • Depending on scheduling demands and PTO needs, this position may require working overtime
  • This position is staffed 24/7/365 that includes nights holidays and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent degree
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hub master control television environment
  • Proficient in troubleshooting skills in a television station environment
  • Firm working knowledge of live broadcast automation systems and software
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Has the ability to troubleshoot accurately and solve problems effectively and efficiently when they arise
  • Ability to take fast corrective action, as necessary
  • Team player dedicated to the television industry
  • Must be tech savvy with a firm ability to troubleshoot on-air incidents as they arise
  • Must be proactive in preventing on-air incidents
  • Highly attentive to details
  • Composure: Demonstrated ability of multitasking in a fast-paced live broadcast environment while remaining calm and acting accurately and efficiently
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of video servers, routing processes and related broadcasting equipment
  • Working knowledge of transmitter operations and parameters in a virtual setting
  • Firm understanding knowledge of FCC compliance laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills in a customer service provider setting, both verbally and written
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge is a must
  • Customer service abilities in a demanding fast-paced live broadcasting environment are required
