Digital News Editor

WOSU Public Media is in search of a creative digital first producer who can broaden the reach of WOSU Public Media’s online news coverage.  The Digital News Editor will work with the Managing News Editor, the Chief Content Director of News and the rest of the WOSU News Team to keep wosu.org up to date throughout the day; this includes editing news content, curating posts for the site, as well as writing and reporting stories when needed. This position will also be responsible for working with reporters throughout the story gathering process to plan elements to help tell the story for our digital audiences. This position requires occasional night and weekend work.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least two years of digital content creation and web publishing experience in a broadcast or digital newsroom environment.
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Understanding and commitment to basic journalism standards of accuracy, fairness, and balance.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience writing and editing breaking news stories that get posted in a very timely manner
  • Experience managing and curating social media channels for news organizations
  • Experience in public media.
  • Experience with audio and video editing software.
  • Knowledge of Columbus and Central Ohio.

Duty Description

70%                       Produce and post breaking news stories to keep news content fresh on wosu.org. Produce multi-media web content, including but not limited to on-demand audio, images, graphics, maps, videos and text.  Edit on-line news stories and other web content for compliance with AP and NPR styles, proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and readability; Pitch and assist with the creation of on-line elements for enterprise social reporting.

20%                       Daily coordination of news on WOSU’s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other channels to extend the reach of news content.

10%                       Other duties as assigned.
