Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Operate under the supervision of a producer/director and/or client to realize the creative vision of the project
  • Operate television studio, audio studio, editing and control room video and audio equipment for in studio and at remote (multiple camera) locations
  • Set up, load, adjust and operate in master control and studio, equipment such as television cameras, waveform and TV monitors, audio meters, router and patch panel, vectorscopes, digital audio equipment, CD/DVD devices, DAT machines, automated programming and/or continuity devices, character generators, video switcher, audio consoles, graphic devices, edit controller, video and audio editing systems (linear and non-linear), lighting console and grid (instruments), microphones, audio effects processors, video still store and digital video effects devices in an aesthetic manner to create an audio and visual continuity during television and audio productions
  • Under the supervision of a producer/director, direct studio productions such as Weather World, Take Note and fundraising drives as assigned
  • Under the guidance of the creative director, responsible for lighting at studio and remote locations to include designing the lighting plan, hanging and aiming lighting instruments and measuring and balancing for proper technical and aesthetic light levels
  • Coordinate and provide producer/director with production materials such as music cuts, stills, sound effects, graphics and visual elements for studio and remote production needs
  • Prepare and revise edit decision lists as needed
  • Edit video and audio materials
  • Direct and oversee edit and graphic sessions
  • Log and archive materials according to established data asset management guidelines
  • Answer questions for, direct the work of and train part-time employees
  • Record required information on production order forms, timesheets, discrepancy reports and other report forms as required
  • Drive WPSX-TV production mini-van or fleet vehicle on remote assignments and maintain usage log
  • Participate in surveys for remote production locations and in the planning of production design and approach, settings, lighting, microphone placement and cable runs
  • Determine availability of power for lighting and audio needs
  • Operate and interpret video and audio monitoring devices for program content and technical quality
  • Promptly notify producer/director of any discrepancy of established guidelines for technical production delivery
  • Notify maintenance technicians in a timely manner when equipment is not functioning properly; provide accurate description of malfunction
  • Under the direction of higher-graded technician or supervisor, operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, meters, signal generators and distortion analyzers
  • Use various hand tools for routine servicing and construction of electronic components/equipment and set construction and maintenance
  • Analyze TV signals from a variety of sources for proper levels and other parameters
  • Make adjustments and/or calibrations to ensure that equipment is operating in accordance with established rules, regulations and standards
  • Work with tolerance up to .0005 percent
  • Notify supervisor of discrepancies
  • Monitor the quality of various video/audio signals, including but not limited to Penn State Public Broadcasting incoming/outgoing satellite feeds and Pennsylvania Public Television network
  • Correct signal problems when they occur in cooperation with technical staff
  • Evaluate completed videotaped and DVD mastered programs for adherence to established standards for proper video and audio levels, pulse widths, “dropouts”, stability and color phasing, etc.
  • Adjust satellite dishes and receivers
  • Remove snow from satellite dishes as necessary
  • Make recordings and dubs of content as required
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on studio equipment such as camera pedestals, lighting equipment, audio equipment (cleaning) and other professional equipment
  • Make recommendations to supervisor when stocks of parts, components, forms or other materials need to be replenished and where new equipment may be needed

Job Requirements: Requires the use of shop mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of adjustable measuring instruments and the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training. Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
