Job Summary:

As manager of our office in Wausau, you will embody WPR's commitment to central Wisconsin communities by leading, creating, and overseeing regional operations. This includes ensuring WPR is a regional source to convene conversations on key local issues; developing and executing signature events and outreach opportunities that will connect local audiences to WPR; overseeing local programming and telling our story through regionalized public relations and communications. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly energetic, creative believer of public radio to enhance WPR's position in the community in central Wisconsin with fresh and innovative ideas.

You will join a team of Regional Managers around the state who report to the Regional Director and will supervise one Outreach Specialist.


Leads and represents public radio operations and activities for a region. Provides on-site managerial guidance to regionally-based staff supervised by others.

  • 5% Assists with policy development, organizational review and communication, personnel planning and employee relations issues, and strategic planning for a region
  • 65% Develops, initiates, and pursues community relations, engagement, content, and marketing activities that effectively position and promote unit programs and services to the community
  • 5% Collaborates with all regional staff to implement regional activities
  • 5% Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders representing the interests of the unit
  • 5% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 5% Maintains the standards of journalistic ethics and excellence
  • 5% Supports fundraising efforts, including membership, corporate development, major gifts, and planned gifts
  • 5% Advocates for and ensures the function of facilities and technical operations


Required Qualifications:

Ability to develop and maintain partnerships or long term relationships with internal and community stakeholders with a focus on cooperation and collaboration
Comfort with speaking in public and serving as an organizational representative at public events
Ability to develop, manage, and lead multiple projects, priorities, and initiatives simultaneously
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
Strong computer and software skills
Experience analyzing and evaluating business processes for continuous improvement

Experience in public broadcasting, media, or community engagement
