Digital Emergency Alerting in Tornado Alley

This grant enabled 27 public radio stations, working with NPR Distribution Services, to activate the display of local metadata to present emergency alerts on digital platforms, including mobile devices. The stations are in regions often hit by tornados. Emergency information will be transmitted to listeners via the NextRadio application to mobile devices, desktop and laptop computers, HD Radios, smart cars, broadcast data displays and audio streams. This project builds on the success of the 2016 Great California ShakeOut earthquake preparedness drill.
