Niu Forever

The niu, or coconut palm, was once regarded as Hawai'i's Tree of Life. The grassroots movement Niu Now faces a warming climate, a deadly invasive beetle and a powerful tourism industry in its fight to re-establish niu as a fundamental food crop, arrest its genetic erosion and instill the spirit of aloha ‘āina in Hawai‘i’s youth.
