Journalism Collaboration: Kansas News Service

This grant supported the launch of a collaboration, formerly called the Kansas Regional Journalism Collaboration, among lead station KCUR/Kansas City, KMUW/Wichita, KPR/Lawrence and High Plains Public Radio/Garden City, to create a statewide multimedia news service focusing on statehouse politics, health, education, natural resources, rural life and agriculture. The Kansas City-based editor guides seven reporters and a digital producer to provide weekly in-depth, issues-oriented features and long-form reports for broadcast and digital distribution. The reporters contribute to stations’ daily programs and appear at community forums. Content is shared with partner stations, community college licensee Radio Kansas, local newspapers and public television stations.
