Corporation for Public Broadcasting Awards Grant to Public Media Infrastructure for Public Radio Interconnection

New, independent nonprofit entity will sustain public radio distribution through 2030

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 26, 2025) — The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today announced a grant of up to $57.9 million over five years to Public Media Infrastructure (PMI), a new independent nonprofit entity formed by a coalition of leading public radio organizations, to sustain public radio distribution through 2030.

Jose's leadership and dedication to public broadcasting helped shape Hawai’i Public Radio into the esteemed institution it is today, and his grace and courage after receiving a devastating ALS diagnosis remain an inspiration to us all.

NEW ORLEANS, LA (August 30, 2022) – Building on the success of the Urban Alternative public radio format in cities from Denver to Milwaukee, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is supporting the expansion of the locally customized format, which uses hip hop, R&B, and dance genres to connect with young multicultural audiences. CPB President and CEO Pat Harrison announced a request for proposals from public radio stations wanting to launch the format today at the Public Radio Content Conference in New Orleans, LA.

(September 14, 2021) – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced grants totaling $1.3 million for three public radio stations to implement the Urban Alternative format to connect with young, multicultural audiences. The grants to Radio Milwaukee, WJSU (Jackson, MS), and Minnesota Public Radio will support transitions to locally customized formats using local and national Hip Hop and R&B. CPB Honors WUFT and Florida Public Radio Emergency Network with Community Lifeline Award

(WASHINGTON, DC) March 19, 2019—The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) today presented the Community Lifeline Award to WUFT-TV/FM (WUFT) and the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network (FPREN) during a meeting of the CPB Board of Directors.
