(January 12, 2026) — As the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) concludes its grantmaking, the organization today announced a $2.9 million grant to American Public Television (APT) to a new initiative designed to help local public television stations complete, distribute, and promote locally produced content for national audiences.
The Board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting recognizes and honors Teresa Safon for her extraordinary service to CPB and the public media system.
For over 20 years, Teresa has been an integral part of both the Board of Directors’ operations and CPB’s day-to-day mission, providing continuity, institutional knowledge, and trusted counsel to numerous executives and Board members. Washington, D.C. (January 5, 2026) — The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress to steward the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting, announced today that its Board of Directors has voted to dissolve the organization after 58 years of service to the American public.
The decision follows Congress’s rescission of all of CPB’s federal funding and comes after sustained political attacks that made it impossible for CPB to continue operating as the Public Broadcasting Act intended.

The investment will support production of the program through October 2027, and enable 1A to continue expanding the variety of voices and stories featured on the show through live broadcasts and events in locations beyond Washington, D.C.
