CPB Statement on President Biden’s Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 13, 2023) — Patricia Harrison, President and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), made the following statement today on President Biden’s Fiscal Year 2024 budget, which proposes $575 million in FY 2026 for CPB’s advance appropriation; $60 million for the public broadcasting interconnection system and infrastructure; and $31 million for the Department of Education’s Ready To Learn program in FY 2024.

CPB Statement on Congress’ Approval of Funding for Public Media

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 23, 2022) — Patricia Harrison, president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), made the following statement today following the House and Senate passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, which includes funding for public media: 

“We are grateful that bipartisan negotiations have resulted in increased funding support for CPB, providing $535 million for CPB's FY 2025 advance appropriation, ensuring that public media’s high-quality programs and services are available for free to all Americans.

Nawaz and Bennett to Succeed Judy Woodruff on Monday, January 2, 2023

Arlington, VA (November 16, 2022) – Sharon Rockefeller, President and CEO of WETA and President of NewsHour Productions, today named PBS NewsHour chief correspondent Amna Nawaz and chief Washington correspondent and PBS News Weekend anchor Geoff Bennett co-anchors of the nightly newscast. The PBS NewsHour, co-anchored by Nawaz and Bennett, will launch on Monday, January 2, 2023. Nawaz and Bennett succeed Judy Woodruff, who has solo-anchored PBS’s nightly news broadcast since 2016, prior to which she co-anchored it alongside the late Gwen Ifill.

America Amplified to Help Public Media Stations Develop Voter Resources

DALLAS, Texas (May 18, 2022) -- The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) will award the America Amplified engagement journalism initiative an additional $375,000 to help public media stations across the country ensure that American citizens have the facts they need to participate in local, state, and Congressional elections this fall. This grant brings the total amount awarded to America Amplified to more than $1.35 million.

CPB Funds Public Media Stations Addressing COVID-19 Misinformation

$275,000 in Grants to 14 Stations in Communities with Low Vaccination/High Infection Rates or Emerging Hotspots

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 19, 2021) – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is awarding a total of $275,000 in emergency grants to 14 public media stations across the country to address COVID-19 misinformation in their communities. The grants – up to $20,000 each – are being awarded to public television and radio stations in areas with low vaccination and high infection rates, or in emerging hotspots for coronavirus infection.
