CPB Continues to Advance Innovation for the Public Media System Through Grant to PRX

PRX launches a pilot for public media stations to strengthen on-demand audio and podcasting capacities

BOSTON (October 7, 2024)–– The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) awarded a $359,600 grant to public media distributor PRX for a pilot that will enable free access to Dovetail for 30 public media stations. Dovetail is PRX’s digital platform that currently supports hundreds of podcasts, including more than 150 from stations nationwide.    

Public media stations that participate in the pilot will test Dovetail’s impact on audience engagement and station revenue.

(October 3, 2024) – CPB has awarded a total of 30 grants to date through the first round of funding for the Next Generation Warning System (NGWS) grant program, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Stations in Alabama, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and Virginia are the latest to receive funding to upgrade equipment for public safety.

Stations in Alaska, New York Secure Next Generation Warning System Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 19, 2024) – Public radio stations KHNS-FM and KRBD-FM in Alaska and Mountain Lake PBS in New York will receive a total of up to $400,000 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to upgrade their equipment to provide enhanced emergency alerting. With these grants, CPB has awarded a total of 24 public media stations funding so far for the Next Generation Warning System (NGWS) grant program, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

CPB Selects PBS SoCal to Lead Public Media’s Civic Content and Engagement Initiative

(August 1, 2024) – Public media stations KMOS PBS (Missouri), PBS Fort Wayne (Indiana), and KTOO Public Media and Kodiak Public Broadcasting/KMXT-FM (both Alaska), have been awarded a total of up to $1.37 million from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to upgrade their equipment to provide enhanced emergency alerting. CPB has awarded 17 grants to date through the first round of funding for the Next Generation Warning System (NGWS) grant program, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

PBS to Provide Dynamic Local Audience Data to Member Stations

Nielsen Local Dashboards fully funded by major CPB grant

ARLINGTON, VA; May 13, 2024 —PBS has received a significant grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to provide PBS Member Stations with Nielsen Local Dashboards, providing in-depth audience data. The dashboards will display local market linear television audience data to give stations an enhanced understanding of the viewers they reach throughout the day.
