Laura Possessky, Assistant General Counsel and Vice President, Business Affairs

Laura Possessky is an Assistant General Counsel and Vice President, Business Affairs, working in the General Counsel’s Office. In this role she is responsible for structuring, drafting and negotiating grant agreements and advises CPB departments on legal matters relating to grants management. Previously, she worked in CPB's Office of Business Affairs.

Ms. Possessky joined CPB in 2016 from private law practice where she counseled digital media and production companies, nonprofits and educational institutions on entertainment, intellectual property, corporate and nonprofit law matters. She previously worked in the business affairs division of the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Contracting and with Citibank in Paris, France. A recognized bar leader, Ms. Possessky is a recipient of the Frederick B. Abramson Award for innovative and dedicated service to the District of Columbia Bar. She was named a “Woman of Vision” by Women In Film and Video in 2012. Committed to community, she has served as President of the Women’s Bar Association of DC and on several nonprofit and association boards including the District of Columbia Board of Governors, the American Bar Association Section of Science and Technology, DC Refers, Docs In Progress and Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts.

Ms. Possessky earned her J.D. from Georgetown University, distinguished with the Dean’s Certificate for Service to the Community. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, Phi Beta Kappa.
