Finding your roots. Season seven. Country roots

This episode re-aired several times in southern Oregon this week. I found myself disturbed by an assumption Dr Gates made. While it is clear that many white slave owners impregnated their female slaves— whether out of lust or as a matter of breeding to expand “property” in a manner similar to horse breeding—- it is not at all clear that some of his guests’ African DNA comes from that. He completely has ignored the fact that Sicily is close to Africa and Moors and other ethnic groups resided on the island in past centuries. Racial intermarriage could simply have occurred sometime before the guests’ ancestors left for America. Please be more careful about assumptions.
