Job Description:

Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR) the public media company of Western North Carolina, is searching for an experienced leader of Finance and Operations.   

Reporting directly to the CEO & General Manager, this role involves managing the annual operating budget and facilitating the creation and evolution of innovative financial strategies, processes, and procedures organization-wide, while also encompassing comprehensive financial analysis, reporting, and the management of Human Resources, Engineering/Technology and Facilities.  This position oversees the administrative functions-including technical operations-of the organization and requires the direct-line management of up to two or more staff members.  Provides functional (dotted line) leadership for finance, administrative, human resources, technical and facility operations for all BPR departments. 
 

Financial and Administration  

  • Champion financial transparency and accountability, fostering a culture of financial stewardship. 
  • Oversee all financial functions, including planning, analysis, budgeting, reporting, and forecasting. 
  • Ensure integration of financial systems and technologies across the organization. 
  • Design and implement effective internal controls and perform financial modeling to drive business improvements. 
  • Provide fiduciary oversight of investments, including endowments and retirement plans. 
  • Oversee organizational administrative functions including HR, benefits administration and office operations. 
  • Staff Board of Directors’ Finance Committee and Great Place to Work Committee (People/HR). 

Strategy Leadership  

  • Collaborate with the CEO-GM and Senior Leadership Team to establish and implement organizational vision and objectives. 
  • Stay informed about developments in financial practices and changes in relevant industries. 
  • Contribute to enterprise risk management planning to mitigate organizational risks. 
  • Develop yearly and long-term financial goals aligned with the organizational mission. 
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure adequate capital and liquidity. 
  • Assess and report organizational performance through various financial metrics. 
  • Review and approve capital and expense requests to support organizational objectives. 

Staff Management  

  • First or second level management of employees who deliver technical, operational and administrative functions 
  • Inspire and motivate exceptional performance among team members. 
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and develop a diverse team. 
  • Organize workflows and delegate responsibilities to achieve objectives effectively. 
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to enhance team members' skills and impact. 
  • Provide oversight and leadership of 3rd party consultants who deliver functional services to BPR (such as HR or accounting) 
  • Nurture an environment of inclusive, creative, collaborative and critical thinking. 
  • Organize and lead weekly meetings, review plans, ideation, goal setting. 
  • Meet with all staff in a group and individually to create an understanding of the current challenges and to provide mentoring and leadership development for talented staff. 

Compliance Leadership  

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and audit requirements. 
  • Serve as the key contact for internal and external audits and reporting processes. 

Other Responsibilities  

  • Participate in organizational events and initiatives. 
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience as Head of Finance or similar finance leadership role.
  • 2 years experience in operations management of facilities and/or supervision of technical staff.
  • Bachelors degree required; Master's degree, CPA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • US Driver's License
  • Significant experience in employee relations.

Location
This is a site-based position working out of the BPR studios in downtown Asheville, NC. All senior leadership staff have the option to work two days per week remotely.
