GBH is a public media powerhouse, serving New England, the nation, and the world with productions that educate, inspire, and entertain—on television, or radio, on the Web, and on an expanding array of mobile devices. GBH is PBS’s leading producer for TV and the Web, a major supplier of programs heard nationally on public radio, a leader in educational multimedia and media access services for people with vision or hearing loss, and the leader in public media for greater Boston and New England.

 

JOB OVERVIEW

This Executive Assistant (EA) position will support a GBH Executive who oversees a large and varied portfolio of multi-platform content of programming. This EA will perform diverse strategic administrative functions requiring initiative and sound decision-making with the goal of achieving clear communication, efficient office operations, and effective assistance to the GBH Executive.

 

GBH is seeking a highly detail oriented, experienced and talented administrative professional who thrives as a self-starter and problem solver. This challenging and fast paced position will require regular contact with GBH production staff, Board members, foundation leaders and key representatives of our public media communities (PBS, CPB, NPR, etc.). Trustworthiness, discretion, poise, confidentiality, flexibility and a solutions-based approach to addressing problems are required. They must be an excellent communicator (written and verbal), have superior interpersonal skills, expert computer skills and use sound independent judgment to keep projects on track.

 

They must be able to work independently and proactively on multiple, concurrent deadlines with limited direction and execute assignments with a sense of urgency. The ideal EA candidate must be able to interact diplomatically with a wide range of people in a collaborative fashion, exude grace under pressure and professionally represent the GBH Executive and our organization.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather/Compile information from a wide range of sources. Create reports, correspondence, presentations, etc. Serve as operational liaison with GBH’s Executive Leadership Team, department heads, and staff; with leaders and other contacts at other public media organizations; with members of our Boards of Trustees and Overseers; and with the general public. Ensure prompt and orderly processing of documents, correspondence, internal reports, and other transactions according to standard and approved procedures.

  • Heavy calendar management and booking travel with occasional off-hour efforts required.

  • On occasion, provide on-site support for large group meetings and events (some of which will be in the evenings or on weekend days). 

  • Occasional editorial work including researching story ideas, researching new social and digital platforms.

 

SKILL SET

  • Must have strong proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • High professional standards, an exemplary work ethic and an openness to learning new skills as required.

  • Must maintain confidentiality/discretion.

  • Keen interest in both documentary and scripted story-telling.

  • Editorial or production experience not necessary but a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. Must have experience as a C-level executive assistant or comparable equivalent. 3-5 years’ work experience required.
