Indiana Public Media comprises WFIU Public Radio, WTIU Public Television, Media Productions, Content, WTIU/WFIU News, and a host of locally produced programming. Support units include Development, Events, Marketing, Engineering and Administration.

Known on campus as Radio and Television Services, we report area news, produce audio and video programming, create digital content, and develop programs and activities. We help IU faculty and staff produce and distribute audio and video to support their teaching, research, and service activities; our in-house Content unit offers full remote and studio production support.

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning HR objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The position provides Human Resources (HR) guidance by assessing the HR related needs of Radio and TV. HRBP provides support in talent acquisition, pay/salary administration, coaching, employee relations, leave administration, management of remote work, and IU/RTVS policy and procedure interpretation and compliance. HRBP proactively communicates with HR colleagues and other IU offices to ensure consistency among staff. This position maintains effective level of business acumen and coordinates with the Director of Finance and Administration, Fiscal Officer. The partner acts as an employee champion and change agent.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and tactical support for H R matters around hiring, pay/salary, and policy and procedure interpretation and compliance.
    • Biannual pay/salary reviews, annual progression and incentive plan review and updating.
    • Monitors work study student status, acceptance of financial awards, hiring/terming of work study records.
    • Biannually updates work study positions with Radio and TV, motor vehicle record check administration and oversight.
    • Nepotism management plans and/or other conflicts of interest.
    • Harassment and bias prevention training administration and oversight.
    • Searches material documentation and storage within Google Drive and/or shared HR drive as is appropriate.
    • Required annual reporting posted to Indiana Public Media Site and required annual reporting for Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
    • Management of remote work with unit leaders.
    • Drafts the HR section of the employee monthly newsletter.
    • Participates in the digitization of commonly used HR forms.
    • Attends at 2 career fairs per year to follow CPB requirements.
    • Tracking personnel changes.
    • Works with Graphic Design to update master organization chart and other materials.
  • Performs compensation analysis in partnership with IU Human Resources. Acts as departmental resource on compensation policies, practices, and programs for all applicable position classifications.
  • Resolves and provides solutions for more complex employee relations issues with continued partnership, counsel, and support from COEs.
  • Collaborates and develops recruiting strategies to meet current and/or anticipated staffing needs; ensures recruiting and staffing needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with other business partners and managers to improve and build effective relationships to improve employee engagement and identify ""high priority"" retention needs.
  • Coaches leaders to help determine best solutions regarding policy interpretation, performance issues, workforce planning, change management, conflict resolution to ensure alignment and consistency across the university.
  • Provides HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on issues to leaders and managers.
  • Collaborates with HR COEs to roll out and support university-wide initiatives, ensure client's needs are understood and met, and deliver change management interventions.
  • Provides support for ensuring an environment of diversity and inclusion.
  • Works with supervisors to resolves employee relations issues within Radio and TV teams with counsel from IUHR.
  • Oversees talent acquisition and partners with Payroll and HR Coordinator (Payroll Coordinator) to ensure accurate and timely postings on IU jobs site, which are then shared to CPB.
  • Manages full-time postings shared on Current per hiring manager request.
  • Works with other human resource personnel internal and external to Radio and TV to improve relationships within and outside of our unit.
  • Promotes positive employee engagement through fair and consistent treatment, as well as advocating for appropriate employee interests.
  • Identifies "high priority" retention needs as applicable.
  • Provides HR consulting/coaching to supervisors to help to determine best solutions regarding policy, attendance issues, performance issues, change management and conflict resolution.
  • Supports university-wide initiatives and helps roll out such initiatives.
  • Provides support for ensuring an environment of diversity and inclusion.
  • Guides Payroll and HR Coordinator (Payroll Coordinator) in relation to human resource activities and needs within the unit, while Payroll and HR Coordinator (Payroll Coordinator) remains a direct report of Director of Finance and Administration, Fiscal Officer.
  • Leads on all HR related matters with Radio and TV.
  • Partners to create and execute on ensuring an environment of diversity and inclusion.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree required (degree in Human Resources preferred)

  • 3 years Human Resources or related progressively responsible experience

WORKING CONDITIONS/DEMANDS

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
