Job Description

 

This position is responsible for all activities of the Underwriting department at KNAU. The Underwriting Sales & Community Outreach Manager reports to KNAU's Development Director and is part of the station's leadership team.

 

Program Management - 75%

 

• Responsible for Underwriting budget, which provides 30% of KNAU's operating budget.

• Meets or exceeds monthly sales goals.

• Grows business and corporate support in a strategic manner by soliciting new underwriting clients, initiating sales calls and effectively closing new contracts.

• Maintain existing client base by renewing contracts, writing copy which is compliant with FCC requirements and working with business owners to evaluate advertising/marketing needs and trends.

• Manage timely collection on accounts.

• Interpret and understand media research and qualitative data.

• Manage Underwriting inventory.

• Travel throughout northern Arizona and statewide to make sales presentations and provide ongoing customer service to station Underwriters.

 

Supervisory - 10%

 

• Supervises full-time and when applicable part time underwriting account representatives.

 

Community Engagement and Communication - 10%

 

• Promote station image through effective and appropriate association with various business and non-profit organizations throughout northern Arizona.

• Represent KNAU at local and region community events.

• Recruit volunteers and donation for on-air Membership Drives and events.

• Use social media to inform and engage the community and KNAU listeners.

 

Other - 5%

 

• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• Bachelor's degree.

• 2-4 years of relevant experience.

• 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience.

• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and effective interpersonal communication skills.

• Two years' experience managing, forecasting and projecting a sales budget.

• Familiarity with Northern Arizona.

Salary

 

Salary range begins at $54,779. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

 

FLSA Status

 

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP), which is an alternative to the ASRS plan for faculty and other appointed staff, will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. Additionally, the long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
