Purpose

The Managing Director will oversee a comprehensive individual giving (membership) program that will ensure long-term support for KUT and KUTX. They will lead efforts to secure funds through a robust membership/individual giving program that includes on-air membership drives, online campaigns, and direct mail campaigns along with donor stewardship and donor communication.

 

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic direction for KUT and KUTX’s membership program; developing multi-channel communication campaigns focused on strengthening relationship with existing and prospective donors; growing annual revenue.

  • In collaboration with the membership team and programming teams, plan and execute on-air membership drives including campaign messaging.

  • Analyze KUT/KUTX data as well as industry and market trends to assist in the development of long-term strategies; maintains knowledge about the external environment as it relates to fundraising in the broadcasting and digital media industries.

  • Supervise the full-time staff on the membership team, co-supervise development staff.

  • Collaborate with major and mid-level gift officers to develop strategies to ensure successful identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors; including an opportunity to build and steward a donor portfolio.

  • Develops and maintains a complete and comprehensive knowledge of the station's donor database.

  • Communicate institutional mission, vision, and goals persuasively to donors and other members of the public.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • A minimum of 5 years managing an individual gift/membership program with 10 years overall experience in non-profit fundraising, donor cultivation and solicitation.

  • Experience in establishing strategies for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating prospective donors.

  • Experience planning and implementing comprehensive, multi-platform annual fundraising strategies.

  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage and organize multiple projects that consistently meet deadlines and budget.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure and effectively manage details of several concurrent projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Overall excellent written, verbal (telephone and in-person) and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated strong computer skills.

 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than required years of experience.

  • Working knowledge of Allegiance Software, a public broadcasting membership management software and VIP, the UT alumni/donor database system.

  • Extensive experience writing fundraising proposals including proposals to individuals, foundations and other grantors.

  • Public broadcasting/media experience.

Salary Range

$88,000 - $95,000 + depending on qualifications

 

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Moving equipment, supplies, furniture in the course of day-to-day operations.

 

Work Shift

Occasional travel may be required. Work hours may vary to include additional working hours during peak periods. This position may require working on evenings, some weekends and holidays. This position is hybrid and requires work on-site three days per week and is remote two days per week.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
