The Position

We are seeking an experienced, creative, and highly organized candidate to fill the position of Director of Major Gifts. This position is responsible for developing and managing all activities related to the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts level ($10k and above) donors for Nashville Public Radio, including 90.3 WPLN News and 91.1 WXNP, Nashville’s Music Experience. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Development and working closely with the senior team, the Director of Major Gifts is an integral part of an eight-member development team at Nashville Public Radio. The Director of Major Gifts will be energized by working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, and identifying innovative ways of increasing loyal contributions to assist in building a major gifts program.

Major Objectives

Within the first 12 to 18 months, the Director of Major Gifts will achieve the following major objectives:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with the Vice President of Development, CEO, leadership team, staff, Board, and key donors; establish a visible and dynamic presence as an ambassador for Nashville Public Radio throughout the surrounding community.
  • In partnership with the VP of Development, construct and execute a vision for the Major Giving Program.
  • Oversee an ambitious, comprehensive fundraising plan for major gifts with responsibility for stewarding a portfolio of major donors.

 

Responsibilities

The Director of Major Gifts will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Identify, qualify, and cultivate a portfolio of 100-125 major gift level donors and prospects. Develop and execute prospect strategies to ensure an optimal donor experience and positive outcomes for Nashville Public Radio.
  • In partnership with the VP of Development, establish annual goals and metrics for success of the major gifts program, including number of contacts, solicitations, closed gifts, and associated timeframes.
  • Cultivate and steward existing donors with a goal of sustained, ongoing, and increased giving and initiate contacts with potential major gift donors to grow the donor pool.
  • Work within Nashville Public Radio’s CRM system to document donor information, track donor activities

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring most of the following qualifications and skill sets:

  • An enthusiastic commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Nashville Public Radio and deep connection to truth-based, investigative, and local journalism and music discovery. 
  • Five to seven years of development experience, preferably with prior experience engaging with donors in the Nashville philanthropic community. Working knowledge of the broader philanthropic landscape, prospect research methodology, best practices, and evolving trends in philanthropy are highly preferred.
  • A successful history of meeting and exceeding major gifts or high-level annual fund goals is required; capital campaign and/or planned giving experience is an advantage.
