Description:

The Executive Producer (EP) at PBS12 is responsible for overseeing the creation and production of original programming, ensuring that all content meets the highest journalistic, educational, and entertainment standards. The EP collaborates closely with content creators, producers, and station leadership to develop programming that reflects the mission of PBS and serves the needs of the community. This role involves strategic planning, budget management, and leadership in the creative process from concept to final production.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Development and Strategy:

    • Develop and execute the station's content strategy in alignment with PBS's mission and the station's goals.
    • Identify and cultivate ideas for original programming, ensuring diversity, relevance, and quality. 
    • Lead the creation of content which is distributed across multiple platforms, including television, digital, and social media.
  1. Production Management:

    • Oversee all aspects of program production, from pre-production planning to final post-production.
    • Collaborate with project manager, producers, directors, writers, and other creative staff to ensure content is delivered on time and within budget.
    • Ensure compliance with PBS standards and FCC regulations.
  2. Budgeting and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage budgets for various productions, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • Negotiate contracts with talent, freelancers, and vendors.
    • Ensure financial accountability and track expenses against the budget.
  3. Leadership and Team Management:
    • Leads and mentor a team which includes a project coordinator, editors, and other production staff and crew.
    • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment.
    • Provide clear direction and feedback to ensure high-quality production.
    • Work closely with the development and marketing teams to promote programming and secure funding.
  4. Quality Control and Editorial Standards:
    • Maintain high editorial standards across all productions, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and integrity.
    • Review scripts, rough cuts, and final edits to ensure consistency with the station’s mission and brand.
    • Address and resolve any editorial or content-related issues.

 

Minimum Education Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcast, marketing or related field, or equivalent level of experience.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements

 

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in television production, with a significant portion in a leadership or executive producer role.
  • Experience working in public media or a nonprofit environment is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of successful programming and content creation including managing budgets, production teams in-studio and field crews and leading editors.

 

Compensation:  $80,000- $90,000

 

Work Environment:  Hybrid

 

 

 

Benefits:  PBS12 offers a comprehensive benefits package with 100% employer-sponsored medical, dental, LTD, and a $25k life insurance policy along with access to a Health Savings Account (HSA).  Paid time off includes 11 holidays plus accrual of vacation, and sick days.  Additionally, employees may participate in a 403b retirement plan with a 3% employer match after one year of service.
