Job Description:
97.9 WHAV, Greater Haverhill’s only public radio station and nonprofit local news service, offers a unique opportunity to join a respected and growing regional news operation—on-air, online, everywhere.
The position can be structured as part- or full-time or something in between as mutually agreed.
Duties include writing, reporting, photographing and recording news stories, which may include urgent breaking news, crime and court, public meetings, local elections and investigative and/or deep-dive pieces as assigned; night and occasional weekend assignments as news breaks; placing public meetings and events on the air live; recording and editing audio; and possible announcing.
Successful applicants will demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes news, commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, natural curiosity, objectivity, dependability and willingness to learn.

Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
- Prior writing/reporting experience (college newspaper, web, TV or radio will be considered)
- Above average English spelling and grammar
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Strong ethics
- Ability to work well and quickly under deadline pressure
- Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) Style
- Mastery of Microsoft Word and solid PC skills
Some technical training will be provided.
