Job Description:

THE ROLE

The Manager, Development Operations is responsible for leading StoryCorps’ daily fundraising operations to support the Development Department to effectively meet its goal of stewarding and growing StoryCorps’ donor base. Working across the Development team, the Manager’s core responsibilities will include, data management, reporting, analytics, and prospect research, with a view toward moving donors through the cultivation cycle. StoryCorps seeks candidates with demonstrated subject matter expertise; they should be able to implement best practices for pipeline growth and development, and interpret data for executive audiences, to inform high-level Department strategy and decision-making. The Manager will also act as a key liaison with other departments regarding Development systems including Finance, Digital, IT, and Marketing & Communications. 
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Your responsibilities will include data tracking, reporting & analytics for donor engagement and participation, projections and money raised, pipeline development as well as moves management and stewardship. Duties include:

  • Development Data Management
    • Oversee the Development team’s use of Salesforce including the tracking of projections and closed gifts.
    • Be the Salesforce-expert within the development team, working with the StoryCorps Director, Data Systems, and other department leads to ensure proper departmental use and best practices.
    • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of Development’s data, including monthly reconciliation with the Finance team.
    • Supervise the Development Coordinator on data entry, gift entry, and gift acknowledgments to ensure accurate and timely donor communications. 
    • Implement systems to track and manage the Development team’s workflow, using tools such as Salesforce, Asana, and Google Workplace.

 

  • Reporting & Analytics 
    • Generate and coordinate lists for direct response mailings, donor communications, and annual report listings.
    • Work with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Individual Giving, and Director of Institutional Giving to track annual fundraising projections and provide reporting needed for leadership, board, and other stakeholders
    • Create custom reports for wide-ranging fundraising needs, including weekly moves management meetings with Executive leadership and quarterly board reports.
    • Create and maintain department dashboards to monitor key performance indicators and progress toward annual goals.
    • Use data to analyze donor-giving trends and assess growth opportunities.

 

  • Moves Management & Stewardship
    • Work with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Individual Giving, and Director of Institutional Giving to develop customized stewardship plans for donors, tracking progress on an ongoing basis.
    • Manage pipeline development, wealth screen, and research tools such as iwave and Wealthx, working with front-line fundraisers to provide datasets and research needed to prepare and inform requests.
    • Oversee Development calendars (institutional and major donors) to ensure all annual deadlines are tracked and met.
    • Prepare prospect profiles to assess donor capacity, and prepare briefings for senior leadership in advance of meetings.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of three years of fundraising, project management, or development management function.
  • At least two years of Salesforce experience.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical and research skills, with the ability to effectively translate information for a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to take a project from assignment to completion; ability to manage multiple simultaneous requests for information, and prioritize accordingly to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to quickly and concisely synthesize large amounts of information.
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills that include sensitivity to donor information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse audiences internally and externally. 
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment.
  • Experience working with Google Suite and Asana preferred.
