Job Description:

VPM is a public media organization serving Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. Since 2019, the VPM Podcast team has produced audio programming that includes The VPM Daily Newscast and Track Change, along with award winning Admissible: Shreds of Evidence and Seizing Freedom.

We are looking for a creative and empathetic communications professional to oversee internal and external support for the podcasts produced by the department.  A collaborative partner with the Director of Podcast Production, this role supports the implementation and evolution of the station’s podcast strategy and provides editorial feedback when needed.  This work advances the organizational goals of serving diverse audiences with innovative, impactful content.

Responsibilities

  • Works jointly with the Director of Podcast Production to establish clear standards and practices for decision-making, meetings, workflow and quality assurance.
  • Consults with Director of Podcast Production when pilots are approved for production to assess freelance teams and review budgets.
  • Provides editorial feedback as needed for podcasts in production. 
  • Coordinates communication, workflow and deliverables between VPM departments involved in promotion, marketing, distribution and development of all active VPM podcasts.
  • Acts as primary point of contact for internal VPM teams and external partners (distribution, sponsorship, etc.).
  • Supports efforts to engage local communities with podcast hosts and/or programming.
  • Creates, organizes, maintains and shares relevant project assets with key stakeholders.
  • Researches, vets and supports the implementation of new tools and subscriptions.
  • Manages the technical implementation and reporting of podcast programs, including episode publication and performance monitoring.
  • Coordinates with web team to set up project-specific subsites for new podcasts. 
  • Supervises customization, content creation and publishing on subsites. 
  • Creates, shares and reports on SmartLinks and SmartPromos in Chartable analytics platform.

Desired Skills:

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with how content is successfully created, funded and promoted in a public media organization is a plus.
  • Highly proficient in digital media and eager to learn and adopt new/emerging platforms.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing the development, production and launch of podcasts or other digital-first projects.
  • Commitment to creating local content that reflects the diversity of our communities.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a team of creative professionals.
  • Strong journalistic judgment and integrity. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and organization.
  • Experience with Office 365/Megaphone/Chartable/Airtable/WordPress/Descript is a plus.
