Job Description:

Our new Sales Manager role will support VPM’s Corporate Support and Style Weekly sales teams to ensure sponsors are building connections with these loyal audiences who also support our brands financially.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with Style Weekly’s General Manager, this position will be responsible for motivating and mentoring our sales teams to maintain our current client business and grow new business revenue across platforms.

As Virginia’s home for public media, VPM connects nearly 2 million people across Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley to insightful programming in arts and culture, history, science, news, and education. Acquired by VPM in 2021, Style Weekly has been the region’s alternative voice in news, culture, arts, and creative thought since 1982. This weekly publication is known for its smart, witty, and tenacious coverage of Richmond.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads, motivates, and mentors a team of sales professionals across TV, radio, print, and digital platforms. 
  • Develops and implements effective sales strategies to achieve company revenue goals. 
  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business. 
  • Tracks and analyzes sales performance metrics, providing regular reports to leadership. 
  • Stays updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and market conditions to identify new opportunities. 
  • Provides ongoing training and support to enhance the skills and performance of the sales team. 
  • Oversees contract negotiations and pricing strategies to maximize profitability. 
  • Works closely with marketing, creative, and production teams to ensure cohesive campaign delivery and client satisfaction. 
  • Addresses and resolves client concerns and issues promptly and professionally. 

Qualifications:

  • 5 years in sales, with at least 2 years in a managerial role, preferably in media or advertising. 
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and driving revenue growth. 
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to clients and stakeholders. 
  • Strong client relationship-building skills with a customer-centric approach. 
  • Proficient in analyzing sales data and market trends to inform strategy. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
