Job Title: Coordinator, Traffic & Programming

Reports to: Senior Director, Broadcast Traffic & Vice President, TV Programming/Operations 

Status: Full-Time, Regular, Exempt 

Salary Range: $57,000.00 - $62,000.00

Position Overview: 

Within WETA’s Local TV Programming & Operations department, this position manages broadcast logs, WETA’s local media library and related broadcast materials with internal/external stakeholders. Coordinates troubleshooting of same with our outsourced broadcast operations partners. Maintains relationships within WETA and member stations to improve operational knowledge and WETA workflows. Works with the Programming team in aiding the creation of monthly schedules and assists with programming curation across WETA’s Apps and with special projects designed to increase the discoverability of WETA programming among linear and digital audiences. This role reports to Senior Director, Broadcast Traffic and Vice President, TV Programming.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Manage & schedule promotion elements consistent with WETA's broadcast operations policy, station promotion strategy, on-air promotion efforts and FCC guidelines; ensures accurate and smooth on-air look through daily contacts and coordination with station master control and PBS Broadcast Operation Department
  •  Manages accurate broadcast schedules and information by entering program timing, lengths, and descriptions in database daily; prepares daily program logs for WETA multicast channels
  • On call for evening and weekend work, as required
  • Familiarity with new technologies and distribution methods
  •  Monitors and disseminates information from the PBS Broadcast Operations data delivery services, MyPBS and PBS resources for stations including The Source, The Hub, the Planning Portal and PBS Program Advisories
  •  Acquires and provides accurate program information within WETA
  •  Evaluates programs for potential acquisition and release on WETA’s broadcast and streaming platforms
  •  Under the supervision of the Senior program Specialist, curates programming on WETA+ and the localized PBS App
  •  Acquires and provides accurate program information within WETA
  • Coordinates assets of multiple WETA broadcast and digital services
  •  Coordinate with Creative Services content delivery, interstitial inventory, and asset status
  •  Maintains relationship with PMM, WETA’s outsourced master control service
  • Perform related special projects related to programming and productions or other duties as assigned
  • Coordinates Metadata Governance within Local Department

Additional Skills and Qualifications: 

  • College Degree plus two years of progressively responsible work experience or comparable combination of education and experience. 
  • At least two years Traffic Experience within Public Television 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Television Broadcast Operations

  • Familiarity with ProTrack Programming/Broadcast Operations Software required

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with careful attention to detail 

  • Strong understanding and application of computer technology, using Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, database management software

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to effectively work independently as a team member and in a team environment, with shifting priorities and deadline pressures

  • Familiarity with Outsourced Master Control Operations
