Director, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Full-time, Exempt

Reports to: Chief People and Culture Officer  

JOB OBJECTIVE: 

This individual will play a key role in supporting the execution of the WETA/NHP DEI strategy. They will manage the deployment of companywide DEI projects, programs, and initiatives. They will manage the progression, coordination, and administration of all DEI related activities, including strategic partnerships. They will be expected to partner, collaborate, and build relationships with key stakeholders companywide, to advance the DEI strategy and support the integration of DEI into all aspects of the business. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program/Initiative/Project Management

  • Manage the deployment and execution of the DEI strategic plan
  • Manage all DEI Advisory Committee programs and initiatives
  • Manage coordination and tracking of DEI engagement activities
  • Support DEI recruitment, university relations and talent strategies
  • Manage DEI training plan and deployment efforts
  • Manage and deploy Inclusion Community (Employee Networks) initiatives
  • Manage coordination of DEI marketing and branding efforts including DEI ads, award nominations, and thought leadership opportunities
  • Manager and support supplier diversity efforts
  • Manage and coordinate mentorship program and related activities
  • Manage workforce development efforts and related activities
  • Manage DEI external relations and community partnerships
  • Partner with HR to execute and advance equitable, systems, practices, and processes

DEI Communications

  • Partner with marketing, communications, and other business areas to create and promote DEI related messaging
  • Develop DEI communications for internal platforms, including website and SharePoint
  • Manage and create digital DEI content for external channels and platforms, including social media 
  • Create DEI content for blogs, collaterals, articles, etc.
  • Manage and support development of the DEI year-end report
  • Manage the updating and distribution of the DEI monthly newsletter
  • Manage DEI@WETA.org mailbox

Administrative Support

  • Meeting and calendar management
  • Manage the DEI budget
  • Manage DEI tracking and scorecard development; manage annual updating
  • Coordinate WETA/HNP involvement in DEI related events and activities (conferences, panel discussions, webinars, etc.)
  • Manage CP&CO external relations including industry-related events, committees, advisory boards, panel discussions, etc.
  • Serve as the POC for external DEI vendors and consultants (as needed) 
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Thoroughness and Follow-up—Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

  • Technology-savvy - Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (Microsoft Office).
  • Proven ability to engage and interact with executives and stakeholders

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8+ years of experience working within a DEI function or as part of DEI team; experience managing and coordinating DEI programs and initiatives within a multi-faceted environment; clear understanding of the impact of DEI both internally and externally; ability to articulate and comprehend strategic DEI; knowledge of DEI recruitment strategies; experience developing and deploying DEI communications; previous DEI management experience preferred; prior work with affinity/business resource groups and/or diversity councils
  • Experience managing and analyzing demographic data and metrics (e.g. scorecards, dashboards)

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations.  We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA.  WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible.  Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
