Job Description:

Internship – Student Reporting Labs, Production 

Part time, non-exempt. $15.00/hr.
Fall 2024 (September 9 – December 13)
Reports to: SRL, Editorial Director 
Location: Remote/Hybrid 

Description of Intern Work Responsibilities/Projects:

  • Producing video content and/or audio on a need basis, including supporting a primary content project
  • Collaborating working with SRL Staff to brainstorm and support new ideas, projects and goals
  • Supporting systems internally by tracking in an Editorial Calendar and AirTable 
  • Assisting with related special projects or other duties as assigned 

Learning Objectives:

  • Skill development: Gain practical experience while acquiring knowledge within the field of communication, journalism, and public broadcasting 
  • Understanding real-world application: Develop a greater understanding about reporting and how the interdisciplinary work of video production are powerful ways for young people to learn and civically engaged
  • Personal Professional Development: Grow production skills and learn new systems while working in a in a professional environment to support the development of project-based learning resources 

Specific Skills Required:

  • A high proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to shoot and edit high quality video
  • Experience cutting audio and/or podcasting
  • Proficiency in TikTok, Instagram and social media trends 
  • Demonstrated the ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment
  • Overall tech savvy skills: you feel comfortable and are open to using Zoom, google drive, Slack, AirTable, Canva and other programs
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for journalism, youth engagement and public broadcasting media

Preferred Major:  Journalism or related field

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
