JOB OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

WUOT FM, the public radio station licensed to the University of Tennessee and located in Knoxville, seeks an Account Manager for Business Partnerships.

The candidate will be professional, passionate, resilient, goal-focused, and a very creative thinker who can use their strong relationship-building skills to develop win-win solutions for our business partners as they align their brands with the highly valued and trusted resource of public media in East Tennessee.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Research, locate, and contact potential clients to offer business sponsorship opportunities.
  • Meet with clients to discuss their marketing and business needs, gain insight into clients’ competitive market position, target customer profiles, media perceptions and budget allocations, creative approach preferences, and the nuts and bolts of their business operations. 
  • Strategize the best way to position the client then prepare and deliver sales presentations to new and existing clients to recommend and sell new sponsorship programs, and to maintain and increase existing sales orders.
  • Meet all FCC guidelines while using creative and communication skills to write copy and deliver to clients for approval/agreement.
  • Solidify the business relationship and retain and grow accounts through excellent customer service and a high level of client satisfaction.
  • Travel to/from client locations to build and maintain relationships/accounts.  An Account Manager needs to engage with clients away from the station regularly to successfully conduct sales activities. 
  • Meet or exceed your individual monthly sales goals.
  • Sell in a way that is consistent with WUOT’s mission, values, and standard of excellence for representing public radio.
  • Represent the station in a manner that meets with the station's brand/market image.
  • Follow the systems and processes for monthly projections and weekly goal meetings.  Prepare sales projections, weekly reports, short/long term strategy, plans, and goals.
  • Monitor market conditions, current industry information, prices, and sales.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, or sales; Bachelor's degree in nonprofit administration, journalism, marketing, communications, sales, or related field preferred. Equivalent education/experience considered.

Required skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit marketing, development, and project management principles.
  • Ability to promote the benefits of investing in public media and the station to potential business sponsors.
  • Passion for the public media cause and an avid interest in the nonprofit field.
  • “Soft Skills”–Ability to connect with potential underwriters, board members, current stakeholders, and more, emphasizing relationship-building.
  • Technological Skills—Mastery of donor databases, spreadsheets, charts, reports, email, electronic calendars, word processing, etc.
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies.
  • Self-starter with excellent project management skills to deliver high-quality results under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and insurance.
  • Knowledge of FCC guidelines and requirements
  • Strong team player committed to working with department and station colleagues to achieve collective goals

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $40,000 plus commission.

About WUOT FM: Listener-supported WUOT 91.9 FM is licensed to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Qualified by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, WUOT is a member of NPR and an affiliate of the Public Radio Exchange and American Public Media. The station’s primary format is news, classical and jazz music.

WUOT serves listeners throughout East Tennessee and parts of Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and streams on the web at wuot.org. WUOT’s second audio channel, WUOT-2, is available on HD Radio™, Internet radio and on the web.
