Duties and Responsibilities:

Sales

  • Meets with clients to discuss their marketing and business needs, gains insight into clients’ competitive market position, targets customer profiles, media perceptions and budget allocations, creative approach preferences, and the nuts and bolts of their business operations
  • Strategizes the best way to position the client then prepares and delivers sales presentations to new and existing clients to recommend and sell new sponsorship programs, while maintaining and increasing existing sales orders
  • Meets or exceeds individual monthly sales goals
  • Sells in a way that is consistent with WUTC’s mission, values, and standard of excellence for representing public radio
  • Travels to/from client locations to build and maintain relationships/accounts - Account Manager needs to engage with clients away from the station regularly to successfully conduct sales activities
  • Solidifies the business relationship and retains and grows accounts through excellent customer service and a high level of client satisfaction

Marketing/Reporting

  • Monitors market conditions, current industry information, prices, and sales
  • Researches, locates, and contacts potential clients to offer business sponsorship opportunities, including program sponsorships and event space sponsorships
  • Follows the systems and processes for monthly projections and weekly goal meetings
  • Prepares sales projections, weekly reports, short/term strategy, plans, and goals
  • Represents the station in a manner that meets the station's brand/market image

Content Creation/Other

  • Meets all FCC Guidelines using creative and communication skills to write, copy, and deliver to clients for approval/agreement
  • Assists as needed during WUTC Pledge Drives, including but not limited to messaging, on-air pitching, and phone operator
  • Other duties as assigned to further the mission of WUTC Radio

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit marketing, development, and project management principles
  • Ability to promote the benefits of investing in public media and the station to potential business sponsors
  • Passion for the public media cause and an avid interest in the nonprofit field
  • Ability to connect with potential underwriters, board members, current stakeholders, and more, emphasizing relationship-building
  • Technological skills—mastery of donor databases, spreadsheets, charts, reports, email, electronic calendars, word processing, etc.
  • Self-starter with excellent project management skills to deliver high-quality results under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Knowledge of FCC guidelines and requirements
  • Passion for and experience with public broadcasting
  • Knowledge of Chattanooga and Tennessee Valley- the people, music, cultures, issues, and geography

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of experience in sales/fundraising; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit administration, journalism, marketing, communications, sales, or related field; and 5+ years of sales or nonprofit fundraising/development experience is preferred.
