Job Description:

WUWM has the largest public radio newsroom in southeastern Wisconsin. In addition to covering the local issues that are most important to the community, WUWM’s news team runs special reporting initiatives on significant beats, including the environment, education, and race and ethnicity. Their local show and podcast, Lake Effect, brings the community local conversations about the people, places and organizations that shape Milwaukee.

Over the last three decades, WUWM has increased content creation, become more proficient at raising funds to sustain its operation, and expanded its impact on the community. After the pandemic slump felt by most public radio stations that feature news and information, WUWM saw record breaking monthly highs in the spring of 2022, including average quarter hour, and share of Milwaukee-Racine market (#42). WUWM won 21 awards for work produced in 2021 by the Newsroom, Lake Effect and Digital Teams. The stories and interviews were honored in competitions held by state, regional and national journalism organizations. The independent, educational mission of WUWM and its programs fuel a passionate bond with its growing listenership.

WUWM is seeking a Media Technology and Operations Manager to manage large projects specific to radio production, physical location and studio spaces. This position will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of systems and networks for production. This includes managing the complex broadcast network infrastructure and providing support and maintenance for staff to diagnose and troubleshoot problems. This position will also assist with design and implementation of systems and networks to ensure high quality programming in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations. This includes identifying processes, collaborating with partners and vendors, estimating timelines and implementing systems to facilitate the progress and completion of short- and long-term media technology projects. This position will provide process improvement suggestions and conduct cost analyses to identify obstacles and drive project completion.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for providing operational support of physical spaces with production, working with the Vice President of Operations to manage the day-to-day operations of the buildings. This includes general maintenance; communicating issues with the space; supporting purchasing; ensuring network and websites are working and streaming media; and supporting/devising internal management of data, audio and documents that support efficient workflows.

Please note that this position will require time being on-call, including evening and weekend hours.

Work will be performed primarily on-site at the Chase Tower in Milwaukee. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process.
