Job Description:

The University of Alabama is looking for an experienced SENIOR NEWS ANCHOR to join the WVUA 23 news team. The Senior News Anchor plays a key leadership role in the WVUA 23 newsroom. In addition to writing, anchoring, and producing content for broadcast and digital platforms, the anchor is a leader who guides newsroom editorial decisions and mentor’s student journalists and professional staff. The position will anchor two or more newscasts each day and provide consistent guidance, coaching, and accountability for the WVUA 23 news team. The Senior News Anchor demonstrates a strong commitment to journalistic standards inside and outside of the newsroom and, with the WVUA 23 News Director, provides editorial oversight working closely with producers and reporters to develop content that provides high-quality news and information to our local communities. The successful candidate will be able to handle breaking news, recognize relevant content, and showcase stories in a professional manner. Strong writing/producing, digital, and communication skills are a must. Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communication or Journalism is preferred. WVUA23 is a commercial television station located in a $18 million-dollar state-of-the-art Digital Media Center. UA is one of only two universities in the nation with a commercial TV station. We are also home to a nationally recognized public radio station and a public TV production unit. WVUA23 is headquartered in the University’s $18 million-dollar state-of-the-art Digital Media Center, which includes Alabama Public Radio and the Center for Public Television.
