Job Description:

Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a Vice President of Donor Development.

This is not a remote position. Our VP of Donor Development is expected to reside in the Denver Metro area upon starting. 

About the Position:

The Vice President of Donor Development reports to the SVP, Audience & Development, and leads all audience and philanthropic fundraising for Colorado Public Radio - including membership and leadership giving, vehicle donations, foundation support, legacy giving, special project campaigns and CPR’s current Capital Campaign - to achieve annual revenue goals and long-term sustainability to support CPR’s mission and strategic priorities. This role has responsibility for the majority of CPR’s revenue and oversees the development group, which consists of three teams and will have three direct reports (Executive Director of Leadership Giving, Membership Director, and Director of Development Services). The role also serves as a senior member of the Audience & Development division which consists of Development, Marketing and Digital Platforms - and the overall CPR Leadership Team of department and division leaders. 

This is a new role developed as part of the strategic combining of CPR’s development and audience divisions with a vision to create an integrated and comprehensive audience to donor journey. In addition to leading the development group this role will collaborate with division and cross division departments and roles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 - 7  years of progressively responsible senior management experience and a proven ability to provide leadership and direction to others. This experience should include the following -
    • Comprehensive knowledge of fundraising principles, strategies and best practices, including major gifts, grants, individual giving, planned giving and digital fundraising. This should include a demonstrated ability to take ownership of fundraising outcomes, being responsible for meeting targets and transparently reporting progress.  
    • Experience cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and engaging donors to build strong relationships. This should include experience with personally asking individuals for gifts and familiarity with proposal and grant writing processes. This should also include working with cross-functional teams on fundraising initiatives. 
    • Knowledge of the non-profit landscape, including challenges, regulations and opportunities within the sector.  
    • Financial acumen, including experience budgeting, producing and analyzing financial reports, and managing resources to effectively plan and execute fundraising initiatives. 
    • Experience with data management, including data analysis, interpreting metrics and trends to make informed decisions and to optimize fundraising strategies. This experience should include familiarity with fundraising software, CRMs, and data analysis tools to track and manage donor information effectively. 
    • Familiarity with ethical fundraising practices and legal requirements related to fundraising and donor data management. 
  • While not required, it’s preferable if you have experience with public speaking at organization events and conferences. 

Education Equivalency

  • A related bachelor’s or master’s degree is not required, but might assist in adding to the experience needed for this position.
